Supported Volunteering

One of the key principles upon which Down District Volunteer Centre was founded in 1998 was that of equality.  The organisation’s ethos states that ‘everyone has the right to volunteer without experiencing discrimination’.

At DDVC we actively promote equality and diversity; we have actively sought to enable individuals from every section of the community to participate in, and benefit from, volunteering.

The Supported Volunteering Programmes target individuals traditionally underrepresented in the volunteering population; specifically individuals registered or self-classified as disabled, individuals recovering from mental ill health, and people who are suffering from long-term illness.

The supported volunteering programme also offers volunteers the opportunity to take part in a group action day where volunteers and staff from the Volunteer Centre go out and take on a days volunteering - sometimes conservation, painting, packing newsletters or cleaning up - for an organisation.  This is a great way of trying out volunteering whilst having a bit of fun, meeting new people and there is always lunch to look forward to.

We offer individuals the opportunity to take part in volunteering and community activity, through our supported volunteering programmes:
